Date : 02 January 2020

Co-op, the major UK convenience retailer, has set out plans to extend its reach in online sales in 2020 as well as to enhance its product offer, with a new plant-based private label range under the GRO sub-brand.

Same-day city-centre delivery to roll-out to 650 stores

Over the next 12 months same-day delivery services will be made available across almost 100 towns and cities.  This will be facilitated by the expansion of both the Co-op's in-house delivery operation and its partnership with Deliveroo.  Currently available in London and Manchester, will reach 250 stores in the year, with Brighton, Bournemouth and Southampton amongst the first new cities to get the service.  Meanwhile ordering through Deliveroo will be extended to 400 stores, allowing customers to shop a range of non-perishable products for delivery within 30 minutes.

GRO to bring plant-based products to 6,000 stores

Launching on 8 January 2020 Co-op's new GRO range will add a specific plant-based sub-brand to the Co-op private label portfolio.  Including products relevant to all mealtimes from breakfast to dinner, GRO will bring innovative meal solutions to the growing vegan market, making its easier than ever for shoppers to buy into meat-free options.  The GRO product line-up includes a vegan steak bake as well as a Kasmiri-inspired pizza featuring cauliflower and vegan mozzarella, and even a sticky toffee pudding.  While the total range of 35 lines will be stocked in 300 larger Co-op stores, select lines will be available in 2,000 further Co-op stores, as well as being made available to some 4,000 Nisa-supplied independent stores.
