Lidl continues its fast expansion both physically and digitally with new store openings and category specific ecommerce.
11,000th store opened
The discounter reached the 11,000 stores’ milestone thanks to its latest store openings in Serbia, Poland and the UK. The pace of its expansion is unlikely to slow in 2020, with strong opening plans set out for some of its major markets, such as the UK, Spain and Italy. It is also expected to open its first store in Latvia, one of the latest European countries where it doesn’t have any presence.
Lidl France launches a dedicated online shop for beauty products
On 6 November, Lidl France launched an online shop, selling its Cien private label, health and beauty range. This is a first for the retailer globally and the latest ecommerce test.
The online shop offers the entire Cien assortment with some exclusive products added and some gift ideas for Christmas. This is a test in the run up to the all-important Christmas trading period, but if successful it could be maintained, mirroring what Lidl Finland did with its Sportyfeel online shop.
