Globus expanding in Russia

Date : 05 December 2019

German hypermarket retailer Globus is planning to expand further across Russia.

Steady expansion

Since entering Russia 13 years ago, Globus has expanded its footprint and now operates 15 stores in the greater Moscow area. The German retailer has enjoyed success in the market with sales growing 6.4% in 2018/19 in local currency, to a turnover of RUB 107bn. Its stores are currently all located in the greater Moscow area but Globus is planning to expand outside of this, considering areas such as Southern Russia, Saint Petersburg and the Volga region.

Investing in the future

Globus is investing 100 million euros in a new logistics centre, located in Puschkino, just north of Moscow. The new centre will be around 80,000 sq ft and is planned to open in 2020. The retailer has also been investing in technology to improve its convenience for shoppers, rolling out initiatives such as a Scan & Go system to create a more efficient checkout experience.
