Carrefour Poland is investing in its offer by using technology to explore new formats, and by introducing concepts tried and tested in other markets. In 2019, the retailer opened its first unstaffed store, Carrefour Express, and launched its first organic-only store in Poland, under the Carrefour Bio banner. We visited both stores to observe the potential added value they give the Polish market.

Take&Go is an unstaffed store concept set up as a test site for innovative retail solutions by its parent, Poznan-based technology company, Surge Cloud. Two stores were opened by the company in 2019, with plans to develop the 2.0 concept in 2020.

The new concept was built using the latest trends in interior architecture and design, as well as the evolution of consumer expectations since the banner's last update five years ago. At the same time, the store remains focused on low prices. The new store concept is embedded in the needs of the city-based shopper, and it illustrates a significant move away from the standard store format that is typically found in suburban and rural locations.

Mega Image launched its latest concept, Fresh Bazar, in July 2019. The pilot store focuses on fresh food and healthy eating. We visited the new format to see how the retailer has created a differentiated, modern look and feel, while maximising its use of space.

Supeco strikes a balance between being a discounter and a wholesaler. In 2019 it opened the first in Bucharest. The store showcases the banner’s core strategic priorities of offering competitive prices, on single or multiple items, curating the assortment to cover families' and B2B customers' needs and operating a model that provides a pricing structure for these distinct shopper bases too.
