Google launches Aero app to deliver food in India

A new hyperlocal shopping app, Aero, will deliver food and other handy man services to Mumbai and Bangalore.

Google Aero acts as the middleman

Google is working with restaurants and home service businesses as partners. Currently, it has Freshmenu, Box8 and Fassos for food partners, and UrbanClap and Zimmber for home services. Users can pay via card, netbanking or cash-on-delivery within the app.

Part of an experiment

Partners are not charged for the service as it is still at an experimental stage. With Aero, Google is completing the transaction on behalf of the merchant on the app instead of sending them to the merchant's website. It is working with TimesofMoney's Direcpay rather than Android Pay for payment. Enabling a reliable payment system is one of the challenges ecommerce players face in India, and this is likely part of the experiment to see what works best. It had previously launched Google Flights and Google Hotel finder, but not with direct payment on its platforms.
