S Group cuts prices of domestic vegetable lines
Nutritional advice and customer insight has inspired S Group to reduce the prices of domestic vegetable lines.
Commenting on the development, CEO Taavi Heikkilä said, ‘Less than 10% of Finnish [people are] eating the recommended servings of vegetables a day’, while the retailer’s customer panel has shown that 55% of respondents would increase their vegetable consumption of they were at a lower price.
Elsewhere in northern Europe…
Norwegian retailers are also promoting discounts on fresh produce, with REMA 1000 offering 10% off the category to loyal shoppers, prompting rivals NorgesGruppen and Coop Norge to compete by offering a 15% discount and an 11% discount respectively to loyal shoppers.
Mobile payment app wins award
In other news, S Group’s mobile payment app, S-mobile, has won the NACS Insight European Technology Implementation Award 2016.
Unique fuelling feature links usage with payment & loyalty
In an interview with Global Convenience Store Focus, S Group revealed that the award was driven by the app’s fuelling feature, which pinpoints the user’s location at its 450 ABC forecourt stores, with fuelling started once the user chooses the correct type of fuel. Payment is then taken automatically via the retailer’s S-Bank credit card, with loyalty benefits also incorporated.
50,000 registered fuelling users since May 2016
S-Bank CEO Pekka Ylihurula stated, ‘S-Group’s mobile [app] is the most commercial app in Finland with 1 million downloads in Finland to date, a country with a population of 5.5 million; while the new fuelling feature has already racked up 50,000 registered users since its launch in May’. In future, S Group plans to adapt the app for automated use at its car wash stations.
