Aldi set to update its stores in Australia

Almost all stores will be refurbished by 2020

The updated store format will feature better signage, new shelving, more wooden produce bays, LED lighting and extended chillers. Some of Aldi's 466 stores are already in this new format. The retailer typically stocks 1350 in each store. It is planning to stock more products and adding space to accommodate popular categories. 90% of Aldi's current range consists of its own brands.

Aldi losing some of its low-price advantage

Sharper pricing at Woolworths and Coles has worn some of Aldi's advantage off. We believe that Aldi's move to refurbish its stores and increase its offerings is to become the 'main shop' for shoppers. The retailer is also taking steps to centralise its buying of fruit and vegetables. The improvement in quality and price of fresh produce will also help attract more regular shoppers.
