Pret a Manger adds new 'veggie' items to US menu

Pret A Manger is adding 20 new vegetarian and vegan items to its US menu, as a result of increasing demand for vegetarian options.

Adding 20 new veggie items to the menu

Pret is adding 20 new vegetarian items to its US menu in 76 stores, as a result of existing vegetarian products doing increasingly well in US cities. The new items will include an assortment of veggie pots, and dishes such as a vegan South African inspired wrap, inspired by what is trending on the healthy food scene. Pret is encouraging feedback on its new menu items, by putting a "love it or leave it" sticker on each one, so that shoppers can "vote" and share on social media. This tactic also creates brand awareness, especially amongst the increasing number of health-conscious consumers and 'flexitarians' who look to social media for inspiration.

Pop-up event in NYC

Pret is creating an afternoon pop up event at the 400 Park Avenue store to preview the new vegetarian and vegan menu options on April 22. This event, held a week before the items are launched on the menu in 76 stores, aims to create excitement and get feedback from customers. The first 200 people in line will get a vegetarian sandwich or salad, a side, and a drink.

Veggie Pret in London

If the new menu items are successful and customer feedback suggests there is demand for it, Pret could introduce a 'Veggie Pret' concept. The food-to-go specialist originally launched the concept in London as a pop-up and then made it permanent, as a result of impressive sales figures and excellent customer feedback. It has now added an additional location in London's Shoreditch, reflecting the growing demand for vegetarian and vegan options.
