Italy-based Esselunga has opened its first two click and collect locations under the ‘Clicca e vai’ (‘Click & Go’) brand. The service bolsters Esselunga’s ecommerce fulfilment solutions and underlines the growing importance of online in Italy following announcements from rivals in the country.
Solution adds to fulfilment options
The Click & Go service adds to Esselunga’s existing range of ecommerce solutions, supporting its Esselunga Home delivery service. At launch, Click & Go is available at only two stores – one each in Milan and Florence – with orders picked at nearby superstores. Esselunga is offering the service for free at launch, while there is also no minimum spend. Orders are able to be collected within two hours of being made.
Shoppers can choose from a range of approximately 13,000 SKU’s, of which about 2,500 are from fresh categories. Shoppers register at the retailer’s existing site – Esselungaacasa.it – through which they can browse the retailer’s full range, while information about the new service is available at a separate site – cliccaevai.esselunga.it.
Online growing in importance
Penetration rates for grocery ecommerce are comparatively low in Italy versus other countries in Europe. However, investment from the country’s leading retailers is rising as demand grows, creating a virtuous circle that should help drive the growth of the ecommerce channel overall. Coop Alleanza 3.0 recently announced that it would be launching the EasyCoop home delivery service, extending its range of ecommerce solutions.
